Flood insurance is offered through the National Flood Insurance Program and private companies. 

Let's look at purchasing flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program. This can be done through any insurance agent that is either appointed directly with the National Flood Insurance Program or an agent that is appointed with one of the approved Write Your Own Carriers.

Private flood insurance works a little differently and there isn't just one option. There can be multiple flood insurance options. An agent will need to be appointed with the different carriers in order to offer all the options.

When selecting the right insurance agent you want to make sure you work with someone that is appointed through the National Flood Insurance Program and with private flood insurance companies. This way you understand all the options that are available.
